AI Productivity Readiness Checklist for Healthcare Teams

6 min read · For operations and IT leaders, and teams under pressure to adopt AI without a clear plan.

There is a lot of noise about AI and not much practical help applying it. This checklist helps you assess whether your team is ready to adopt AI and automation safely and usefully.

It focuses on productivity and operations, not clinical decision-making. Work through data, process, skills, and risk, prioritize your use cases, and confirm the guardrails before you roll anything out.

Readiness by category

  • Data: sensitive data handling rules are clear and data quality is good enough to rely on.
  • Process: high-volume manual tasks are identified and target workflows are documented.
  • Skills: the team has basic comfort with the tools and an owner is assigned for adoption.
  • Risk: privacy and compliance requirements are understood and human review is planned.

Prioritize use cases

For each idea, rate value, effort, and risk, then start with high value for low effort and low risk. Pilot it, measure it, then scale. Do not start with the hardest or highest-risk use case.

Safe-adoption guardrails

  • No PHI or sensitive data in unapproved tools.
  • Human review on all AI-assisted output.
  • An approved tools list with access controls.
  • Clear scope: productivity, not clinical decisions.
  • Privacy and compliance sign-off.
  • Pilot before scaling.
